The OutsmartMoney.ai momentum scanner is a free educational stock and crypto scanner that lists today's top gainers, checks whether each move looks genuine, and labels each row Passes checks, Mixed or Fails checks.
This scanner looks for one specific thing: a share or coin that is up sharply today on far more trading than usual, with a reason for the move that you can actually read. Small US shares do this most days, often in the first hour after the New York open, and crypto pairs on Binance do it around the clock.
Most of those moves fade quickly, so the scanner tries to separate the ones with something behind them from the ones without, and then reads the one-minute chart to see whether the price is at a point where the strategy would consider an entry.
It is a practice tool and nothing more. You can plan a trade, size it and record the result in a journal that stays in your browser, but no orders are ever placed. The stock list was last refreshed at 00:55 BST on 14 Oct 2026 from Nasdaq's public screener, with the US market in after-hours trading, and stock prices can be up to 15 minutes delayed.
We are more careful about saying so than the old version was. On Saturday 10 October 2026 it was still labelling weekend stock prices "Live", including one share, JZ, at $0.83 when its last close had been $1.28, so when the market is shut each row here now reads "Market closed · last session".
Each row gets one of three labels, and they come from two separate tests. The first asks whether the move is worth watching at all, using five quality checks for shares and seven for crypto, and the second reads the chart to see whether the timing fits the pattern the strategy looks for.
A share can pass the first test all morning and only pass the second for a few minutes of it, so most strong candidates spend most of their time labelled Mixed. That is normal, and if the tool teaches one thing it is probably that.
The three labels are defined once, in the "What the zones mean" legend under the results, and the exact thresholds behind them are on the how-it-works page. Rows are ordered with Passes checks first, then Mixed, then Fails checks, and by score within each group. The filters change which checks a row passes rather than hiding rows, so the near misses are always visible.
For shares, the scanner starts from the day's biggest US gainers and scores them on the size of the rise, relative volume, price range, the number of shares in issue and whether a catalyst can be found, such as an SEC filing, a trading halt notice or a news headline.
For crypto it scans Binance USDT pairs, measures activity against each pair's own 30-day norm, checks the spread and trading volume, and compares the Binance price with Coinbase where both list the coin. When we checked the crypto side against Binance's own figures on 10 October 2026, prices were within 0.2% and 24-hour changes within 0.2 percentage points, so it is the stock side, with its delayed and closed-market data, that needs the extra labelling.
Crypto has no official filings, so its catalyst check relies on headlines alone, and many crypto moves start on social media long before any news site picks them up. Headline matching is also the loosest part of the tool. In the same October check, the old version's news search for JZ returned a sports story about someone called JZ George, and SEI's "clear reason" tick came from a currency-converter page, so a headline match is best read as a prompt to go and read it yourself.

Because the pattern is short-lived and quiet periods are common. At the moment 0 rows are labelled Passes checks and 22 are labelled Mixed. For a row to be labelled Passes checks it has to clear the quality checks first, and then the price has to have paused without giving back more than half its rise and be above both its VWAP and its 9-period EMA, there has to be more buying volume than selling volume over the last 12 candles, the latest candle cannot have a long upper wick, and it has to be breaking the previous candle's high. All six have to be true together, and for a fast-moving small cap that might last two or three minutes. Outside US market hours the stock list is mostly empty for the same reason, although crypto keeps running. We would count a day with nothing worth practising on as a useful result rather than a wasted one, which is why the journal lets you record a no-trade day.
The page you load was built from a scan that runs every five minutes during US market hours, including pre-market and after-hours, and hourly otherwise. Once the page is open, the stock list refreshes every 45 seconds and crypto prices stream live from Binance. US share prices come from Nasdaq's public screener, with Yahoo Finance as a fallback, and can be up to 15 minutes behind, and each row says whether its price is live, delayed or from the last session. That last label exists because on that Saturday the Nasdaq screener was a session behind, which is how the old version came to show JZ at $0.83, as "Live", when it had closed at $1.28 the day before.
No. The scanner, planner and journal all work without signing in. Your plans and journal are stored in your own browser, which also means they are lost if you clear its data, so the journal has an export button that saves them as a file. Nothing you type into the planner is sent to us, and the page only requests prices, charts and headlines for the symbols on screen.
The shares this scanner surfaces are mostly small companies with few shares in issue, and those are exactly the conditions that produce violent moves in both directions, so a share that is up 60% before 10am can be down 40% by lunch. Trading can be halted without warning, and when it resumes the price may open far below your planned stop, which means a stop-loss does not guarantee your loss is limited to the planned amount. Spreads on small shares are often wide, and the cost of crossing them eats into a small target. Some moves are also driven by promotions or dilutive share offerings that are hard to spot in real time. That is why the tool is built around practice rather than real money. If the method does not hold up in the journal over weeks of simulated trades, you have learned something before it cost you anything.
